More details on conference and name drafts

Area 2 Leaves Its Signature
Pioneer to Pioneering New Fibers

The booth size is 10’ by 16’.

A part of Independence Rock will be wedged into the right corner, extending 4’ up the right side and 6’ across the back wall.

There will be spaces made to hold 1 gallon pots displaying some of the plants used for fiber (both woven and basketry) and dyes. Some suggestions were: bamboo, cotton, linen(flax), ramie, corn, soy, redbud, maidenhair fern, madder, and marigold.

There will be a “tree” to help us exhibit items. A chunk of my downed oak stuffed into a pot with quickcrete will be provided.

Some wooden packing crates, a barrel, and …. will set the scene for “overnight stop” at Independence Rock. Our items might be things that were brought along the California Trail as they headed for the west.

There will be a table that will be used for the demonstrations. This will also have a 20” by 24” foam core display board that will give info about our demonstration. (Our demo is rope making)

The items to be displayed in this exhibit need to be woven of PLANT materials, since that is the focus for our area. That means our name drafts in cotton, linen, ramie, bamboo….. You get the idea.

Name drafts are great or whatever you feel that your “signature work” is. Just weave in a PLANT fiber for this exhibit.

Remember this is an area 2 exhibit. Is not a juried exhibit! There are 4 guilds working on this. If each guild produces at least 6 items for this exhibit, we will be in great shape. You can always exhibit in one of the many galleries.

All items must have a 3” by 5” index card that contains the weaver’s name, the guild, a description (yarn/fiber, size, technique) This will be printed in 18 point/Times so that all cards will have continuity.

We will set up Friday beginning at 8 am, for those who can make it.

Our demonstration time is Sunday from 2:30 – 3:00. Our title is “Poet Lariat.” (rope making)
Other demos are Saturday 11 – 11:30 “Dyeing on the Trail.” (plant dyes) Fresno
Saturday 12 – 12:30 “When Iris Leaves Home” (paper making
with iris) Golden Valley

We will be booth sitting Sunday from 12 to 4. This will include our demonstration time. We will sign up for time slots as individuals get their conference confirmations.
